This piece is watercolor and ink. I modeled the color scheme and general design after the Beatles' album Magical Mystery Tour, and because if this I also made the piece square as if you were looking at the sleeve of a record. The girl pictured is a character I made who is the drummer of the fictional band Face Boob. She is 9 feet tall and thus cannot fit in a regular sized drum kit. To make matters worse, she purposefully uses a kids' drum set, because she likes the gross way it sounds and also the way it makes her look like a certified giant. Her name is Patricia Tieze (her friends call her Pace Tieze, or Pasties for short). She counts off the band before every song, hence the numbers displayed on the left side of the piece which breaks any symmetry the piece might have had and thus makes the composition more pleasing to the eyes. Watercolor is such a versatile medium and there are many ways it can be used. This illustrative style can be compared with the first watercolor piece I did which was much more realistic.

This class made me seriously question wanting to become an artist as a career and think about my future. Painting has never been my strong suit, but I know just having this class will help me. My favorite painting was the one of my cat. I think it was the flow of the color scheme and just the size and composition that I think it's my favorite. Still, there is so much I don't like about it and so much more I feel like I could do but am unable to do. Besides that, I did meet Jude and Marlena and that is one thing I have to thank you for. I know how to find the people that make the best out of bad situations, and to keep my creativity in my heart.
At the beginning of this class I was lost in my ways. The class served as a way for me to really ponder and try different art styles and get a variety of skills under my belt to prepare me for college. I feel confident having taken this class that I am better than when I entered. You can watch my transition from the first watercolor piece to my final piece, and the effect this class has had on my compositional abilities and color choices. I had never even used oil before this year and now I feel confident in using it. I can't believe how much I've improved. This is my landscape painting in oil. I consider it to be my finest piece of art. I think in all, the composition, color choices, and subject matter are impeccable. Never will I create a piece as good as this one. The sunset in the back is very original, and the wintry landscape calls to mind a desolate, rigid place that contrasts with the warmth of the trees and the cabin and the sky. When I was planning this piece, I had my great grandfather's log cabin in mind. My grandparents used to go there for christmas and play in the snow with no other families around. It was a sanctuary to them. I wanted to honor this with a beautiful magnificent artwork such as the one shown above.
This is my glass painting on a black background. I am not a fan of this piece, and I found it very hard while I was doing it. I'm glad I did, because this is one of the only pieces I've made this year that I can pass off as observational and maybe put into a portfolio in the future. I think I like the colors I chose, even though the red liquid was a little more red than magenta I took creative liberties. My favorite part of the piece is the abstract ice cream scoop because it is the only place where all the colors meet. My least favorite part of the piece is the big red vase. I think its disrupts the piece. In all, one of my least favorite pieces of this class. If I did it again, I would make the red vase more transparent.
This painting is of my cat Angel. She is very old but we don't know how old because our dog found her in the storm drain in our neighborhood and after months of looking for her home, we decided to keep her. I focused mainly on purples and such colors to tie the piece together with an underlying theme. The position of the cat on the ground symbolizes the reach toward the future and the way we are tethered to the past. The green eyes are a contrast the rest of the piece and provide a window to the soul of the animal. I feel like she knows things that I don't know and I wish to know them in the future. She looks directly into the camera which breaks the fourth wall of the piece and connects it to the viewer. The oil paint is very unforgiving and I had a lot of trouble with this piece. In the end it turned out okay. Not my favorite piece I've made, but anything I create in this class is extremely subpar and it's not even my fault. The technique I used was small brushstrokes in the fur and incorporating a limited color palette to ensure the piece's fluidity and consistency.
