This painting is of my cat Angel. She is very old but we don't know how old because our dog found her in the storm drain in our neighborhood and after months of looking for her home, we decided to keep her. I focused mainly on purples and such colors to tie the piece together with an underlying theme. The position of the cat on the ground symbolizes the reach toward the future and the way we are tethered to the past. The green eyes are a contrast the rest of the piece and provide a window to the soul of the animal. I feel like she knows things that I don't know and I wish to know them in the future. She looks directly into the camera which breaks the fourth wall of the piece and connects it to the viewer. The oil paint is very unforgiving and I had a lot of trouble with this piece. In the end it turned out okay. Not my favorite piece I've made, but anything I create in this class is extremely subpar and it's not even my fault. The technique I used was small brushstrokes in the fur and incorporating a limited color palette to ensure the piece's fluidity and consistency.
